Although they seldom stay up for long, there has been a tradition of citizens voicing their opinions on civic issues via the Post Office bulletin board. In the example above, a notice from the City regarding a public hearing for a conditional use permit for a residential treatment facility has gained comments from two different sources:
"Why in the middle of the day? when people are at work!"
"Someone getting paid for this to go through!!! 'Truth'"

This issue of The East County News includes an ad from Value Ford in Elma with the promise:
"Buy a new or used vehicle for $4000 or more and receive a new tactical or hunting shotgun, AR styled rifle, or pistol (Mossberg, Colt, or Ruger)."

Golden Rule Store

This vacant lot on Main Street was once the site of the Golden Rule Store operated by Anthony (1908-1960) and Azizeh (1915-2001) Souda otherwise known as Tony and Z.Z. The wooden structure was still standing until the mid-1960s. The empty building on the left was originally the Timbear Cafe, constructed ca. 1957.
