Daily World

Oct. 24, 2018

It was only a couple decades ago the front yards across town had either the orange Daily World box or the white Olympian box-- except for Wally Moody's yard. He was the only guy in town to subscribe (by mail) to The Wall Street Journal.

These newspaper delivery boxes are going the way of the phone booth.

The Dead Phone

Dec. 27, 2013. At Sam's. It has not been operational for several years, but there it sits, mocking the desperate since there is no other public phone in town.

Retro phone booth

Nov. 26, 2011. This phone booth probably was not considered retro when it was installed long ago, next to the Police Station on 3rd St., but by the time it was removed, not too long after this photo was taken, it was a museum piece. It was a McCleary icon and I miss it. Also, it was the last working phone booth in town.

The Last One

There used to be at least five or more pay phones in McCleary. This one, on 3rd St., is the last one left, and it has not worked for many years. Feb. 26, 2012.

Chump change

46 cents and an empty cig package at the last phone booth in town, which doesn't even work. Feb. 26, 2012
