It was only a couple decades ago the front yards across town had either the orange Daily World box or the white Olympian box-- except for Wally Moody's yard. He was the only guy in town to subscribe (by mail) to The Wall Street Journal.

These newspaper delivery boxes are going the way of the phone booth.

Political comment found on the Post Office bulletin board. In the same handwriting the bottom of the article (snipped from the Olympian) is inscribed "traitor."

I'm shocked, shocked, I tell you, to see that someone out there ... is still reading a newspaper in hardcopy form.

East County News

Oct. 29, 2012. McCleary itself has not had a weekly newspaper since the early 1960s. Currently there are two regional weeklies that include coverage of the town. The East County News began in the 1980s and is basically a collection of articles gathered from the Daily World (Aberdeen, Wash.). It is a free newspaper.

The Montesano Vidette, which began in the 1880s and is the oldest newspaper in the county in spite of the title changes, is subscription-based and includes McCleary news.

Feb. 9, 2012: The news media trucks gather in town during a development in the story concerning the disappearance of Lindsey Baum, a 10-year old local girl who vanished in 2009.
